Overwhelmed. . .

When we began the process of adoption we had to wait until after Christmas 2007 so that we’d have the $250 in hand to send in our application.  We started completely on faith that if we were supposed to adopt that God would provide the funds we needed at each step along the way.

Today, $32,000 dollars later, as I think about 2 children sleeping quietly up in their rooms I am overwhelmed at the generosity of so very many people who helped bring them here.  Sometimes we think, man, what can I do to really impact the plight of the poor, oppressed, and orphaned in the world?  What can I do about the millions of starving people in Africa?  Well, I want to say that hundreds of you have made a significant impact in the lives of two incredibly special children.  Two children orphaned by sickness and poverty who did not have a future without a family; those two children will eat three meals today, be educated, be loved, and most importantly be told that God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their lives.

I want to thank the ladies in my mom’s bible study and other friends and family who threw an “almost” surprise shower for her.  This is a group of people who had a shower for my mom as a new grandparent and purchased gifts for Fikadu and Tigist.  Yesterday and today we received three large boxes of gifts.  Thank you – Louise, Carla, Melissa, Arelis, Linda, Hillary, Jessica T, Dawn, Christine, Threasa, Sharon, MaryLee, Joan, Susan, Shelly, Ann, Grammy, Jessica D, Aunt Cheryl, and Hannah.  Your thoughtfulness brought me to tears this afternoon as I went through each of your gifts.  I know the kids will be blessed by your kindness.  Your generosity is such an example and reminder to me of God’s undeserved favor and blessing in our lives!  Thank you for reminding me of our heavenly Father’s love for us today!
