So, for our adoption both Joshua and I are required to have life insurance. Something that is a good idea whether you’re adopting or not. So we set out to apply for life insurance and met with a financial advisor who walked us through the process. We got the phone call that asked us all the detailed questions about our health and they asked us if we had any plans to travel abroad within the next 2 years. We answered yes, that we would be spending 7-10 days in the capital of Ethiopia for the purpose of adoption. I might add that Joshua and I are both healthy individuals under the age of 30 that don’t sky dive, swim with sharks, rock climb or undertake any other outrageous death defying endeavors! So yesterday we got denial letters tellinng us we were uninsurable due to our upcoming foreign travel!!! Anyone who has any ideas to help us out would be much appreciated! Please pray that we are able to find affordable life insurance.

Has your adoption group offered any suggestions or ideas? Maybe a way to write an appeal letter? I had to do that with my health insurance company once and it was approved.

Do a quick internet search about Life Insurance denied for foreign travel. I got a bit of info quickly and it might give you some ideas of other places to contact. I’ll be praying.

This explains your other post. I’m so sorry, that seems so ridiculous. I’ll pray that God would intervene in this situation. I know that somewhere in Ethiopia God is preparing a precious child or two for you guys and I can’t wait to meet him/her/them

My husband and I are adopting from Ethiopia through AWAA. It certainly is an up-and-down process. Have you thought about looking at Dave Ramsey’s site? He recommends a specific insurance agency for life insurance. Look at http://www.daveramsey.com, if you haven’t already figured this one out. Good luck and God bless!

It seems silly that they would deny you just because you are going to travel to a foreign country. I think the Stager family talked about finding insurance on their blog several months ago, maybe they would have some helpful advice. I will say a prayer for you guys about this.

Hi! It’s great to “meet” you. We are adopting through AWAA also! And Tisha is right we did have a bit of a glich with life insurance also. Because Steve has rock climbed we were given an astronomical price to pay if we wanted life insurance with one company. We did get connected to a company with a good rate through http://www.accuquote.com. If you have any questions feel free to email me at teamstager@gmail.com. Praying for a resolution!
